PDP Delegates Endorse Marwa’s Governorship Ambition Delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Adamawa State Central senatorial district have endorsed a former military Governor of Lagos and Borno States, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (rtd), for the governorship seat on the party’s platform. The 335 delegates from the central district declared their supports for Marwa at a PDP delegates and stakeholders’ meeting held yesterday in Yola, the state capital. The Chairman of the senatorial district, Alhaji Danjuma Iliyasu, said the state remained underdeveloped and they needed an experienced person like Marwa who had transformed other states. Iliyasu told Marwa that the delegates would not hesitate to endorse him for the PDP governorship ticket because of his unbeatable records of service in Borno and Lagos States, which the people are desirous of replicating in Adamawa State. Iliyasu lamented that the state was under developed as a result of bad leadership, hence a challenge to the delegates and all the people to rally round Marwa in order to transform the state in terms of socio-economic development. According to him, the deplorable level of the state should call for total support for the former military governor in order to bring his development expertise to bear in Adamawa State which is seriously begging for infrastructural development in all facets. However, the forth coming election is occasioned by the impeachment of former Governor of the state, Murtala Nyako, and his deputy, Bala James Ngillari, who resigned from office. Consequently, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, was sworn in as the acting governor which automatically created a vacuum in the governorship seat of the state. Responding to the delegates and PDP leadership in the Adamawa Central senatorial district, Marwa thanked them for his endorsement, and pledged to run a purposeful leadership that would be the envy all in the country. According him, socio-economic and infrastructural development would be accorded top priorities in his administration, while he would operate compulsory free qualitative healthcare services and education for Adamawa children and youths, “as education is the bedrock of development in any society.” He appealed to them to keep faith with his endorsement, promising to also keep faith to the confidence reposed in him as very important person in the intra-party politics in determining who should emerge the candidates of the party in all elective offices in the state, especially the governorship candidacy of the party in the state. Marwa told the delegates from the 77 wards in the district that he would run a government that would keep faith with the social contract with them in the socio-economic transformation of the state. However, a governorship aspirant on the platform of PDP, Dr Umar Ardo, said Marwa is merely chasing shadows. He said by the provisions of Sections 8 (b) and 50 (9) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2012), Marwa and his likes are not eligible to contest any elective office on the platform of the party except given a waiver. Ardo noted that the procedure of obtaining a waiver is clearly stipulated under Section 50 (10b) of the constitution. “As a rational being, he should have done the right thing first, for example, get the waiver first before declaring to contest. .
