PDP Govt Committed To Eradication Of Poverty -Macaulay BY ANDY AKENI/THEOPHILUS UZIH/SUNDAY EGEDE The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)- led administration in the state is irrevocably committed towards the eradication of poverty through honest implementation of various empowerment programmes. Macaulay disclosed this yesterday at Ozoro in Isoko North local government area during the flag-off of Subsidy Re-Investment Programme (SURE-P) in the area. He said that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration would continue to give leadership the true definition by carrying every Deltan along in the scheme of things, adding that SURE-P was one of the programmes aimed at enhancing the socio-economic status of Deltans. While saying that more Deltans, especially the less-privileged youths and women, would be empowered in subsequent programmes, the SSG urged those who have not benefitted from the programme to be patient. Macaulay, who noted, that the empowerment programme was a lifeline, called on SURE-P beneficiaries in the state to use the items given to them to enhance their socio-economic status and contribute to societal development. He urged Deltans to shun rumour mongering and continue to support the policies and programmes of the PDP-led government in the state to enable them enjoy more dividends of democracy. The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Barr Newworld Safugha who flagged-off the SURE-P in Isoko North local government area, commended political leaders in Isoko North, the transition committee chairman and members of his team for ensuring that the programme met its objective. Safugha who disclosed that Isoko North was the 22nd local government councils in the state where the programme has been flagged-off, said about 6,000 persons have so far benefited from the programme, advising the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items given to them. Earlier, the transition committee Chairman of the local government, Mr. Samuel Idise had said that the beneficiaries of the programme were carefully selected with the aim of ensuring that the SURE-P items were given to the targeted persons spread across the entire council
