PDP condemns harassment of youth in Habakadal constituency =>Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the harassment of youth in Habakadal assembly constituency of Srinagar city by the police. “At the behest of National Conference politicians the youth are being targeted in Habakadal area for raising their voice against the government’s failure to provide people any relief in the aftermath of last month’s devastating floods in Kashmir,” party leader Mudasir Khan said in a statement. He said it is ironical that at a time when it should have been the priority of the Omar Abdullah government to reach out to the people, who have suffered immensely due to the deluge, it is again repeating the same old tactics of strong arm method which it has been applying over the last six years in the Valley particularly in the Srinagar city to silence the people. He said youth in Habakadal are these days being picked up and put behind bars without any reason, justification. The PDP leader said the present dispensation has failed in rescue and relief operations during the recent devastating floods and now it wants to conceal its failures by targeting the innocent people by misusing the law and order apparatus. “Harassing the youth and detaining them on false and frivolous charges is an ample proof of the frustration and political anxiety that has engulfed the National Conference,” Mudasir remarked. “Leave aside the performance of Omar Abdullah’s government over the years which has been absolutely disastrous but its response to the floods has been grossly insensitive and utterly inhumane. So, it is quite natural the people won’t welcome the NC leaders who had left the people on their own fate during the floods with garlands and shower sweets on them. The anger against the ruling party is genuine and it should accept it with all humility without harming our youth who have already suffered immensely by it,” Khan added. He said the NC leaders are behaving like dictators and are using the police force and other official machinery for their petty political benefits at this hour of traumatic, devastating event also, which is highly disgusting and unfortunate. Khan further invited the attention of police top brass particularly the Director General of Police (DGP) to check the incidents wherein many low rank police officers are being made to toe to repressive policies of a particular party. “Such unscrupulous officials who dance to the tunes of their political masters are responsible for maligning the image of probity and fairness in the police department. If such officials are not reined in, there will be further erosion in the credibility of the police department,” he added.
