PDP crisis: Jonathan not in control -APC chieftain A chieftain and deputy chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Alhaji Usman Shagadi, yesterday, told reporters in Lagos that the ongoing drama currently rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is an indication that President Goodluck Jonathan does not have a grip of the affairs of the party over which he is said to be a national leader. He described the factionalisation of the ruling party as a bad omen which has tarnished the image of the country in the international arena, adding that the manner in which the party conducted its convention in Abuja, last Thursday, was a bad public relations gimmick for Nigeria. Speaking to reporters at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, Alhaji Shagadi, said “the crisis shows that they have shot themselves in the leg, as they are a party of bad fellow and that is why God is revealing their secrets. You can imagine, during a convention, some prominent members of the party walked out on the president of the nation. In advanced societies, they have respect for the leaders, irrespective of party differences, but PDP is an exception. They are disorganised.” However, the APC leader said the party would accept aggrieved members of the PDP who choose to cross over to the APC, affirming that the like of Governor Ibunkule Amosun of Ogun state, among others who left the PDP in the past and were accepted by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) are doing well as elective officers in their respective states. “We will accept, reform them and they will make good candidate for future elections. You can see how we brought out the likes of Governor Amosun and others; you can see the work he is doing in his state. They will be accepted since our cardinal principle is a party with inclusion,” he said. The Edo State politician said Jonathan was using the power of incumbency to control the affairs, because he lacked a grip on the party, affirming that “when we come to election, I can bet you, he will not win.” According to him, Nigeria is gradually descending into anarchy under the present administration, just as he said Jonathan’s predecessor, the late Musa Yar’ Adua, was able to bring sanity into the system, which saw the Appeal Court upturn several fraudulent elections. “The country would have missed the likes of Adam Oshiomhole, Rauf Aregbesola and Kayode Fayemi if we had this present crop of leaders then,” Shagadi submitted.
