PDP strikes rich in deal with BJP, Karra all set to become Union Minister Haseeb Drabu tipped to be next Finance Minister of J&K 12/30/2014 12:26:34 AM SRINAGAR, Dec 29: Leaders of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) have almost finalized their alliance for the formation of next government in the state. The official announcement about the government formation is likely to take place soon. Sources told Early Times that both PDP and BJP have decided to form the next government in the state given the fact that they emerged as the largest parties from Kashmir and Jammu divisions respectively in recently concluded Assembly elections. While PDP got 28 seats (25 in Kashmir and three in Jammu) the BJP got 25 seats with all coming from the Jammu region. Leaders of both PDP and BJP have understood that they should form the next government in the state. For this the pact has been finalized and only official announcement is pending. The PDP would get a berth in the Union Government led by Narendra Modi. Partys MP from Srinagar-Budgam-Ganderbal, Tariq Hameed Karra would be inducted as Minister of State in the Modi led government during the expansion of government due in January next year, said sources. Sources said that two more MPs of the party Mehbooba Mufti and Muzaffar Hussain Beigh may also get a berth in the Union Government, but not soon. They said that Karra has been preferred since he turned out to be giant killer after he defeated the National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah from the Central Kashmir Parliamentary seat. BJP is desperate enough to form a government in the state as it wants to shrug off the notion that party can never form a government in a Muslim majority state like Jammu & Kashmir. For this they can compromise and same has been done under the alliance reached out with PDP. Only formalities are pending and these too would be completed soon, said sources. Sources said that decks have also been cleared for nomination of noted economist Haseeb Drabu as the new Finance Minister of Jammu & Kashmir. BJP wanted that Beigh is recalled from parliament and nominated as the new Finance Minister of State. However, this was not agreed to by the PDP and they pitched for the name of Drabu as new Finance Minister of state. Since Beigh started the whole process of negotiations between PDP and BJP, the BJP wanted him to be the next Finance Minister of Jammu & Kashmir. But this was not agreed to by PDP with the party leaders saying that since Beigh is MP it would not be prudent to recall him to the state. As such there was consensus that Drabu would be the Finance Minister in PDP-BJP coalition government, said sources. While BJP has decided not to talk of abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu & Kashmir, on its part the PDP has conceded demand of BJP that it will not talk about Self-Rule during the tenure of the new government. Both the parties have decided to follow the development model with tricky issues remaining untouched, said sources. The formation of new government in the state is giving sleepless nights to the politicians and common masses since no party has got simple or two third majority in the 87 member House. PDP has emerged as single largest party with 28 members with BJP finishing second at 25. NC has 15 members in the new House and Congress 12 members.
