PEACE AND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE ANNOUNCED BY LUKMEF FOR NOV 28-30th 2013 in Bamenda Millions of rural women grouped into small informal settings or working individually in the agricultural domain provide the much needed food security for Cameroon and beyond. Unfortunately, these women are largely unrecognised and lack meaningful support to move their activities to real profitable and sustainable levels. What is more, climate change continues to negatively impact the sector. Productivity per land surface is decreasing and pressure on the forest for extended and more fertile farm land is increasing, resulting in wide deforestation and land-related conflicts. Women and youths are among the most affected in all of these cases. The women conference on Peace and leadership in sustainable Agribusiness uses a rights-based approach by creating an opportunity for rural women and youths whose main activities and source of revenue is agriculture to interact with each other, gain skills, share experiences, and contact government, diplomatic, private sector, and civil society actors who are funding projects in the areas of agriculture, conservation, environment, climate change, peace and leadership. This will allow the women to build vertical and horizontal collaborations and networks to improve productivity and profitability of their activities through a transition to Agribusiness, which embraces the stated focal areas.
