PELKHIL STILL UNDER NIMA HSS JINX! The boys lost 2-1 in the quarter-final match against team from Nima HSS. Pelkhil scored the first goal in the second half by Sonam Jamtsho, but it was quickly equalized through a goal that was easily prevented. Very shortly after, a simple free kick also somehow turned into a goal for Nima. During the 5 years of Pelkhil Schools very existence, this is the third time our school team has fallen to Nimas team, each time very closely, and no doubt with a big dollop of bad luck. Todays bad luck was a continuation of yesterdays misfortune. Three of our main players had to play in the volleyball finals yesterday against Kelki HSS and missed the football game against Lungtenzampa MSS because the timing clashed. As a result we lost the match against LMSS and in todays quarter-final had to face the winners of the other pool rather than the runners-up. The winner was Nima HSS, a team that was not only stronger than the runners-up but also a team that we have been regularly jixed by! The game itself was marred by some external factors. One of our attacking runs near the Nima goal was interrupted by a ball that came into the field from outside and struck the ball in play. This brought the attack to a halt and all we got was a simple bounce ball. Another sure goal inside the D was thwarted when our attacker was physically pulled back without the referee noticing. The biggest factor in the game was when a teenager high on some substance came onto the pitch and began abusing some of our players, eventually picking on one and even challenging him to a fight carrying a sickle. When our player responded, our player was promptly kicked out of the game. With this we lost a major part of our defense. Both the goals we conceded came after this major distraction. It is a shame that the national inter-school sports are left at the mercy of our societys riff-raff and it is the teachers who have to protect our students being assaulted, in this case with a weapon. We called the police and they came 15 minutes later. What will be the outcome is hard to tell as the boy had managed to run away and the police took no real leads to try to identify the perpetrator.
