PEOPLE PROBLEMS Problems are a part of life, everyone has problems, and no one is immune to them. The world we live in has great problems and is looking for problem solvers. The Bible tells us the last days would be perilous times (hard to deal with, difficult, harsh/hard). Working with people has its problems also and it requires us to use the wisdom of God. The wisdom of God gives us the ability to solve problems. Wisdom leads to right decisions and what is right. Proverb 8:20, 21 says, “I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: 21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.” Wisdom will also make you efficient and effective so we do not waste time and energy. Ecclesiastes 10:10 says, “If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.” Both managing people and leading people requires a certain amount of people skills and problem solving wisdom in order for good relationships to exist. Too often we can back ourselves into a corner in viewing people by putting them in an either or category, they can get a job done or not. It is better to realize that all people are developing and we’ll probably never find a totally finished product for things that need done. A helpful way to view the people problems that arise while working with others is: ALL PEOPLE PROBLEMS CAN BE VIEWED AS READY, WILLING, OR ABLE PROBLEMS. A. A PERSON DOING THE JOB PROPERLY IS “READY, WILLING, AND ABLE.” They have the: training and tools to do the work; their attitude and desire is to get the job done; and they have specific skills and capabilities to do it. B. LEADERS SOLVE PROBLEMS SO THEY MUST DISCERN WHETHER IT IS A “READY PROBLEM,” A WILLING PROBLEM,” OR AN ABLE PROBLEM. 1. A person “NOT READY” needs training, time proving him or herself, or help in getting the proper tools or resources. 2. A person "NOT WILLING" needs to be confronted with the choice of either doing the work, choosing a different area of work where they are willing, or moving on. 3. A person "NOT ABLE" needs to be redirected to a new role within their capability to master. I like what the Apostle Paul said about the Lord putting him in the ministry that communicated the Lord’s belief and confidence in him. He counted him faithful knowing Paul could be trusted with the Gospel. 1 Timothy 1:11-14 says “According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. 12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; 13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. 14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.” I’ve found people often respond more upon how they think we feel about them than what we actually say to them. I’m sure Paul felt God’s belief in him.
