PERSPECTIVE...I spent 5 days in Indiana seeing to my sick mother and then got sick myself when I got back for 4 days. In 4 days I ate some celery, later some crackers. Finally, some hot cereal and a bowl of soup the next day. I did not wash my dishes--I was too weak to stand there. No other dishes for the other 3 in our family had been taken care of, but piled deeper and deeper. My wife has hip trouble and sometimes cant stand and do dishes. This morning as I came into the kitchen she said, pointing at the two bowls and my cup, If you would just take care of your dishes the kitchen wouldnt get so messy. I wanted to thunder back at her. There are dish mountains everywhere. Most of it is from her own hand. She sees the 3 dishes. When we were younger, I would have flared, and we would have argued. Now I just promise to do better. She is wrong, the accusation is unbalanced, the fault is not mine. But in her perspective right now, Im the culprit. What I treasure is her. Not being right. Not being seen fairly, unprejudiced, balanced and the real truth being shown. There were a lot of years when I pressed my case. Now there arent a lot of years left. When the last words are spoken to each other. Neither of us will put, They didnt do the dishes, on the others gravestone. It will say, Loved.
