PESSIMISM: Even though am an incurable optimist in my dealings and approach to life but something tells me that the Confab soon to be convened by President Goodluck Jonathan will be a waste of our resources,charade and decoy to distract us.I have been asked by many people and friends that why dont we allow the Committee to submit their findings before we start picking holes and I always countered that what happened to Nuhu Ribadu Committee findings and others gathering dust in the Presidency Please go back to history and starting from the last one President Obasanjo in 2005,General Sanni Abacha in 1994,to Gen Babangida in 1989,they all convene a Confab which is not a Sovereign National Conference which can and will resolve all the problems in the land. The Confab served only one sole purpose their personal gain and never for the common good.The Constituent Assembly in 1989 was set up with the intention of returning power to civilians in 1990.The move produced the short lived 1993 Constitution(not in use today)and went up in smoke when General Ibrahim Babangida postponed the handover date several times,till we got to June 12 1993 when we had the best electoral process in our country,where Chief MKO Abiola won a landslide victory across the length and breadth of the country,but his mandate was denied. In 1994 the exercise was perceived as exercise for General Sanni Abacha to transmute to civilian rule,immediately after the Constituent Assembly 5 political parties UNCP,GDM,DPN,CNC and NCPN described by the late Cicero Chief Bola Ige as "Five Fingers of a Leprous Hands" was formed.We should all remember that all the 5 political parties adopted General Abacha as their Presidential Candidate before he died unceremoniously on June 8 1998. President Obasanjo reason of convening his own version is only because of the ill fated Third Term,the whole debacle and charade is still fresh in our memories.So much resources was deployed into convening that Confab led by people such as Prof Jerry Gana and nothing of any tangible value came out of it. Lest I forget the Senator Femi Okurounmu Committee is given a month mandate to come up with modalities and issues to discuss,add another 2 months for the politicking to get people appointed into the Confab and from experience every Confab in the country takes nothing less than 3 months to be concluded,in total 6 months which is a precious time will be wasted.General election is coming up Dec 2014 which is only 14 months away that means serious politicking and preparation will only be for 8 months.That will surely beat 11 months transition program of General Abdusalam Abubakar in 1998 which threw up ill prepared and wrong candidates due to lack of preparation I will hold on tight to my pessimistic approach to the useless "Jaw Jaw" or National Dialogue.Hopefully my pessimism and cynicism towards the whole charade will be cured in the coming days.
