PETERS FOR MHS PRESIDENTS PLATFORM: Make the McMaster Humanities Society approachable for students. Why is this important? This is important because Humanities students are meant to be brought together in unity by the MHS and in its current situation (non-existent office hours and intimidating location in the basement of Commons) it unintentionally is preventing the integration of new Hummers, with the spirit of the MHS and all of its current members. How I can help change this? (1) Implementing reliable office hours and stabilizing a McMaster Email in which Humanities students can reach the MHS! (2) Implement open-house nights where students of Humanities can express and communicate their personal views and opinions on what they feel the MHS can do to better serve the needs and wants of the students- because everyones ideas matter! (3) Create a comfortable space for Humanities students to come together. Either by renovating the current MHS lounge in the basement of Commons, or acquiring a new space specifically for Hummer students. Amalgamating on the third floor of the student center is not meeting the needs of the students! Promote the unity of Humanities, both within the McMaster and Hamilton Communities! (1) Implement social events outside of the typical formal. Although formals are well appreciated.. I believe that there are other, less-explored routes that can be taken to unite the Humanities student body. Suggestions should be reflective of the Hummers interests. Some suggestions include but are not limited to: Volunteering in Program Specific Environments (fun+education), Sporting Events as a group, Hiking (Cootes Paradise anyone?), Alpine Leadership within Humanities events, and attending entertainment events! (2) Increase the adopting and sponsorship of Student-Athletes through the Adopt An Athlete program. Currently, the MHS sponsors two McMaster Football players. I would like to increase the amount of Humanities student-athletes the MHS adopts in attempt to support our student athletes and have the MHS recognized in our athletics! I believe in an attempt to unify Humanities students, multiple athletes from various sports should be sponsored! (3) HUMMER GAMES (Hunger Games) themed activity. Your program will act as your district- for the first years, they will choose their district based on their aspired program. This activity will provoke team bonding within programs, as well as allow for all programs to come together in fun, PG13 good fashion! Communication and Organization throughout the MHS (1) Maintaining reliable office hours as well as reliable social media forums for students to discuss any questions, comments or concerns with a member of the MHS. (2) Meetings: Meeting minutes will be posted on the website for all Humanities students to see! In addition to that, I recommend enforcing a weekly blog to keep Hummers in the know on the progress of the MHS initiatives and events! This will provide an active knowledge for the Humanities students to keep up with the MHS.
