PG&E crews are using helicopters to wash power lines in San Luis - TopicsExpress

PG&E crews are using helicopters to wash power lines in San Luis Obispo County. The work removes dirt and salt from the lines, resulting in improved electric safety and reliability. If dirt is allowed to build up on equipment, outages can occur. PG&E can clean about 150 electric towers over 20 miles daily using a helicopter. A line-washing truck can only clean about 50 towers a day. For this work, PG&E used desalinated water from the Diablo Canyon Power Plant, and not city or county water.
