PHIL RICHARDS (BC) announces the publication of two books: Black Heart: the Moral Life of Recent African American Letters, (Lang, 2006) and An Integrated Boyhood: Coming of Age in White Cleveland (Kent State University Press, 2012. Phil writes, “Since receiving a Ph. D in English from the University of Chicago, I have been a professor here at Colgate in Hamilton, New York for 25 years. Along the way I have held a Fulbright teaching/research fellowship in the national university of Gabon (French Central Africa) and visiting professorships in the department of English at Boston University, the University of Grenoble III (France), and Freiburg University (German). I am completing a two-year stint in an endowed chair, the Arnold Sio Chair in Diversity and Community. I have also been a fellow at the National Humanities Center and the Institute on Race and Social Division. I publish frequently in scholarly and literary journals. My son is in the doctoral program in English at SUNY Albany and my daughter, a hospital administrator, runs the in-take section at the new Walter Reed hospital. We have no grandchildren yet. I am fervently awaiting a Yale student among the next generation or their descendents. I am only now beginning to appreciate fully the advantages I received from my education at Yale. As I watch the struggles of young people attempting to enter the profession, I realize how lucky I was.”
