PHILADELPHIA MARATHON CHEER ZONES For Fans Cheer ZonesCHEER ZONES Philadelphia is known for having some of the most devoted sports fans in the world. Our boundless enthusiasm extends to the GORE-TEX® Philadelphia Marathon, as well. Each year, thousands of Philadelphians gather along the course to show their support to all of the runners. Need to find a spot to cheer on a family member or friend? Watch the race at one of the 20+ following fan-friendly Cheer Zones listed below. Please note that times listed are approximate and indicate when runners will be by each location. Cheer Zone entertainment is subject to change. For the most recent updates and more entertainment details, please visit the GORE-TEX® Philadelphia Marathon booth (#1001) at the Health & Fitness Expo or check back on the website race morning. ART MUSEUM Start/Finish Line at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway (5:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.) Watch the start and finish of the race here, come early to accommodate this years security enhancements, then hop over to some of the other Cheer Zones. The Cheer Zone at 21st & Chestnut Streets is in walking distance, or take a stroll up Kelly Drive along Boathouse Row. EAST OF CENTER CITY 16th & Arch Streets @ Café Cret—Mile 1 (6:55 a.m.-7:40 a.m.) This zone is located diagonally across from Phillys famous LOVE Park and majestic City Hall. Grab a breakfast treat and cup of coffee at Café Cret while you are here. 10th & Arch Streets @ Friendship Gate in Chinatown—Mile 1.5 (7:00 a.m.-7:55 a.m.) The Friendship Gate is internationally known and represents cultural exchange and friendship between Philadelphia and its Sister City, Tianjin, China. Chinatown is one of Philadelphias many neighborhoods that is rich with culture and diversity. Grab some dim sum or a bubble tea while you are in the neighborhood! Columbus Boulevard & Race Street @ Race Street Connector—Mile 2.2 (7:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m.) With a beautiful view of the Ben Franklin Bridge and access to the new Race Street Pier, hang out by the river and cheer the runners on as they head back toward Old City and Center City. Columbus Boulevard near Christian Street—Mile 3.4 (7:00 a.m.- 8:30 a.m.) Welcome to South Philly—home to the Mummers and some of the best cheesesteaks around. If you live in the neighborhood, roll out of bed and come join us! Well have some music to help you rise and shine. 2nd & South Streets @ Bridget Foys—Mile 4.5 (7:05 a.m.-8:30 a.m.) Experience South Street! Once a mecca for artists and beatniks, South Street is now a popular destination for dining, entertainment and fashion. Stroll down Fourth Street for fabrics and boutiques, stop by the Philadelphia Magic Gardens, or grab a bite at Bridget Foys! 6th & Walnut Streets—Mile 5.1 (7:05 a.m.-8:40 a.m.) Cheer like its 1776! Hang out by the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall in Historic Philadelphia and celebrate the nations birthplace. Broad & Chestnut Streets—Mile 6 (7:10 a.m.-9:00 a.m.) Watch the race in the heart of it all. Located right in Center City, youll be in the perfect location to grab breakfast in Midtown or Rittenhouse Square after watching the race. Check your Philadelphia Marathon Fan Pass to save a buck or two while youre at it. WEST OF CENTER CITY Go Green Cheer Zone with Clean Air Council, 21st & Chestnut Streets @ Caffeination— Mile 6.5 (7:10 a.m.-9:00 a.m.) Warm up with a hot treat from Caffeination and celebrate your right to clean air. The Clean Air Council will host this years Go Green area with special appearances by the Plastic Bag Monster and Mother Earth. UNIVERSITY CITY/WEST PHILADELPHIA Wawa Cheer Zone in University City, 34th & Chestnut Streets—Mile 7.5 (7:10 a.m.-9:15 a.m.) Philadelphia is quite the college-town and it certainly shows in University City. Show your school spirit and help cheer on the runners with a Philly favorite, Wawa, at this always-lively Cheer Zone. 34th Street & Fairmount Avenue—Mile 8.3 (7:15 a.m.-9:30 a.m.) Row homes and murals are common throughout Philadelphias residential areas. In Mantua, one of the citys many neighborhoods, runners will experience this before they head into the lush greens and beautiful river views of Fairmount Park. Kids Cheer Zone, 34th Street & Girard Avenue @ the Philadelphia Zoo—Mile 8.5 (7:15 a.m.-9:30 a.m.) Join the Philadelphia Zoo, Americas first zoo, at this Cheer Zone and be sure to bring the kids! The Zoo opens at 9:30 a.m., just in time for you to check out the race and be the first in line. West Memorial Hall Drive near Please Touch Museum—Mile 9.8 (7:15 a.m.-9:45 a.m.) The site of the first official Worlds Fair in 1876 was on the grounds by Memorial Hall, which now houses the Please Touch Museum, established 100 years later. A beautiful piece of Fairmount Park where you can enjoy the sights along with the pulsating sounds from the Philadelphia Taiko Center. Course Turnaround at Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive & Black Road—Mile 11.1 (7:20 a.m.-10:00 a.m.) A runners favorite, the Vaudevillians NYB return again for a wild and quirky time to keep runners going as half marathoners are almost to the finish line and the full marathoners are getting into the groove. FAIRMOUNT/KELLY DRIVE GORE-TEX® Cheer Zone, Sedgley Avenue & Kelly Drive—Miles 13.5 & 25.7 (7:25 a.m.-2:00 p.m.) Phillys Party Station, Wired 96.5, teams up with our new title sponsor to keep this Cheer Zone rocking all day long as they pump up the runners and play the latest hits. Kelly & Fountain Green Drives—Miles 14.7 & 24.6 (7:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m.) One of our loyal and always supportive running club partners holds this cheer zone down with music and their water stop. Hunting Park Avenue & Kelly Drive @ Laurel Hill Cemetery—Miles 17 & 23 (7:35 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) The fascinating landscape, art, and architecture should be reason enough to watch the race from this location. A 78-acre cemetery, segmented into three sections, Laurel Hill lays to rest to many prominent figures throughout history and is a must-see historic destination in Philly. Parking is also available at the top of the hill making it very accessible for spectators. EAST FALLS Kelly Drive & Ferry Street — Miles 16.9 & 22.3 (7:35 a.m.-1:15 p.m.) Come cheer with lululemon athletica for the biggest and baddest cheer station the Philadelphia Marathon has ever seen. Meet us at the corner of Kelly Drive and Ferry Street in East Falls for a morning jam packed with live music, noisemakers and a few surprises. #lovesweatcheers Course Turnaround on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive near East Falls Bridge—Mile 17.5 (7:35 a.m.-11:55 a.m.) Built in 1895, the Falls Bridge is charming and beautifully set over the Schuylkill River. This one may be a toughie to get to as a spectator, but is definitely a nice treat for the runners. MANAYUNK Main Street & Ridge Avenue—Miles 18.7 & 21.3 (7:40 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) Welcome to Manayunk! One of Philadelphias many charming neighborhoods packed with great shopping and dining along Main Street. At this zone, you can bring a chair and stretch out. Theres plenty of music and fun to go around. Main & Cotton Streets @ Winnies LeBus—Miles 19.8 & 20.2 (7:40 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) Every year, you can rely on Winnie and her crew to keep runners hydrated and to keep spectators cheering all morning long. All of this certainly works up an appetite so be sure to grab a seat and a delicious, locally-sourced meal at Winnies LeBus Restaurant after the race. Runners: show your bib for a discount. Main & Carson Streets—Mile 20 (7:45 a.m.-12:40 p.m.) And we dont stop! Keep the runners motivated as they round the bend back towards the finish line. Well provide the good tunes and good times. ART MUSEUM Start/Finish Line—Philly Sounds Post-Race Concert (6:55 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) You did it! Congratulations! You worked hard and deserve a big hug and a celebration.
