PHILIP THE EVANGELIST Brief Introduction Philip was a deacon and Evangelist, Acts 6: 5; 21: 8; Eph. 4: 11; a resident of Caesarea, having four daughters who were endowed with the gifts of prophecy, Acts 2: 17; 21: 8-9. He controlled and guided his children in the ways of the Lord. His daughters were virgins; they did not mess up themselves or engage themselves in any form of infidelity. They were prophetess, completely filled with the Holy Ghost. The Lord became the order of the day in the family of Philip as everyone was completely filled with the Holy Ghost. After the death of Stephen, the Christians were driven from Jerusalem due to persecutions except the apostles, Philip found himself in Samaria where he preached the gospel with great success, and wrought many miracles. From the midst of these happy scenes he was called away to labour in a distant spot, with a single soul; but the gospel light was carried by the Ethiopian eunuch in to the dark world of Africa, and is supposed to have there enlightened multitudes. Yet he did, he transferred the gospel to the Ethiopian eunuch, who was the minister of Finance of Ethiopia at that time. The eunuch used his wisdom and enthusiasm in transforming multitudes in the dark world of Africa. In the narrative of Luke, Philip is incidentally distinguished from the apostles, Acts. 8: 1, 14, 16. He preach the gospel in the cities on the coast, from Ashdod to Caesarea, where at a later period, Paul and his companions were his guests for many days, Acts 21: 8-16
