PHL AMBASSADOR GRACES CFC BRUNEI’S 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION 25 September 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Nestor Z. Ochoa was invited as guest of honor to a dinner ball celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Couples for Christ (CFC) and Family Ministries Brunei Community on September 20 held at the Hua Ho Manggis Mall, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. In his message, Ambassador Ochoa congratulated the CFC Brunei for its efforts in strengthening Christian family life and for organizing Filipino families under the CFC Brunei Chapter. He commended the CFC for its efforts in helping fortify the pillars of family life through seminars, talks, and fellowships and by providing spiritual guidance to deepen and enrich the Catholic faith, which is the solid foundation of a Christ-centered family life. Ambassador Ochoa also thanked the CFC Brunei for its continued support for the Embassy’s initiatives. Some of the special guests invited to the dinner ball included Mr. George B. Campos, CFC Executive Director; Mr. Manny Garcia, one of the original batch of couples who started CFC in Manila in 1981 and who was also responsible for bringing CFC to Brunei, and Rev. Fr. Arin Sugit, Asst. Parish Priest, Church of the Assumption – Apostolic Vicariate in Brunei Darussalam. The Philippine Embassy officials who accompanied Ambassador Ochoa during the event included his spouse Madame Mayie E. Ochoa, Minister and Consul General Raymond R. Balatbat, and Welfare Officer Aurea J. Estrada. Ambassador Ochoa and Madame Mayie E. Ochoa also attended the special thanksgiving mass held on September 21 at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Bandar Seri Begawan, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of CFC Brunei. The mass was celebrated by Bishop Cornelius Sim, Vicar Apostolic of Brunei Darussalam and CFC Brunei’s Spiritual Director, and was attended by officers and members of the CFC Brunei Community. The CFC in Brunei, which was founded in 1994, is a Catholic Family life renewal Ministry made available to parishes for married couples in Brunei who wish to live out their Christian life in an active and supportive relationship with one another. CFC also caters to other members of the family other than the couple through its various ministries such as Kids for Christ (KFC), Youth for Christ (YFC), Singles for Christ (SFC), Handmaids of the Lord (HOLD), and Servants of the Lord (SOLD). CFC Brunei is also home to the Borneo-East Timor Mission Center (BETMC) which oversees CFC Mission work in Sibu, Sarawak, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Timor Leste. END
