PHOENIX JEWELER MARKS 71 YEARS IN THE TRADE: ‘I’m going to cut back from six days a week’ PHOENIX -- (May 19, 2014) – G. Darrell Olson of Jewels & Estate Gallery by G. Darrell Olson has announced his intent to reduce his personal work hours to allow for more time with his family. Olson observes, “I’ve been involved for 71 years in the jewelry business ever since I was a young boy. I am blessed with a wife, ten children, 29 grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. We need to have some time together when I’m not working. But let me make this clear – I am not leaving. However, I do want to cut back from my customary six days a week. I am placing the daily business operations in capable hands so I can expand my focus. I will continue to advise and consult, and I will maintain an active presence at the store.” Olson, 83, has been a part of the Valley’s business community since 1962, and has spent more than a half century on the Camelback Corridor. During his tenure, he was instrumental in opening eight jewelry stores in the greater Phoenix area. Olson began his Phoenix career as manager of Paul Johnson’s Jeweler’s at 16th Street and Camelback Road, and eventually launched his own store near Park Central Mall. By 1976, Jewels by G. Darrell Olson opened at the Town & Country Shopping Center on Camelback Road and 20th Street, where he remained for 35 years until he relocated to his current building at 1846 East Camelback Road. Olson also modified the company name to Jewels & Estate Gallery by G. Darrell Olson to encompass the buying and selling of estate-owned jewelry to his inventory of new and custom-made items. Olson says, “I have been in the retail jewelry business for a very long time, and I will always love it. It is my hope that the store will remain with the Olsons for generations and continue to be a tradition in the Valley.
