PHONE SCAM: A new phone scam involves a caller claiming to be an IRS Agent or debt collector who says the victim is delinquent on back taxes or an old payday loan and must pay to avoid legal consequences. In some cases, the caller tells the victim that there are outstanding warrants for the victim’s arrest. The caller then demands payment via Western Union or pre-paid “Green Dot Cards” in order to stop an immediate arrest. The scammers relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, or place of employment in attempts to obtain payment. Police say the high-pressure collection tactics are so intimidating that people are sending in money in fear they will be arrested. “Share” to spread the word out!
