PHOSPHORIC ACID You may have missed this question from Ian Anthony Wilkins and the contributions that followed: Can you etch stone with Phosphoric Acid? Any info would be much appreciated. 6 August at 23:13 Stone Lithography: Although Phosphoric acid is usually used in etches for aluminium plates (TAPEM - tannic acid plate etch, see takachpress/.../Tannic-Acid-Plate-Etch/Detail) it appears that it can also be used in etches for stone. Have a look at this very detailed webpage: litografia.pl/en/etch.html Serena Smith: Intaglio Printmakers still have Atzol in stock - which is very similar tannic based plate etch to Tapem. Works fine on stone. Also, a very good home made alternative can be made with a gum solution made with coca cola and strong tea - a couple of drops of Jeyes Fluid will keep mould at bay! Stone Lithography: Thank you for your very interesting and useful additional info Serena Smith. How much cola and tea do you need in what amount of gum? By the way Hunter Penrose supply many chemicals for printmaking including Atzol: hunterpenrose.co.uk/presscat.pdf Serena Smith: Recipe for home-made nitric free etch (suitable for crayon/rubbing block): Stew old tea bags in cola for about a week, with a couple of drops of Jeyes Fluid to stop the mould; drain and use the solution to make gum (from crystals suspended in old pop sock) to the usual viscosity. Shake before use, do not drink! DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY FURTHER THOUGHTS?
