PICTURE CLAIRE (2001) from Canadian national treasure Bruce - TopicsExpress

PICTURE CLAIRE (2001) from Canadian national treasure Bruce McDonald is a noiry little mistaken-identity tale about two desperate women whose wires get crossed. Juliette Lewis is the Francophone Claire, rather unrealistically hoping the Toronto photographer she once hooked up with will rescue her from the nasty piece of work she crossed back in Montreal. When she crosses paths with femme fatale Lily (Gina Gershon), she picks up a new retinue of both thugs and cops on her tail. Its not clear who if any of the characters deserve our sympathies, but its certainly not Mickey Rourke, who contributes a suitably sleazy cameo in this unconventional thriller. The versatile Ms. Lewis also contributes the end title vocals. (Expiring on Netflix Instant on the 31st, available on DVD thereafter.)
