PIGEONS ADVANCE TO 28th CHAMPIONSHIP IN FRANCHISE HISTORY The thirteen time champs will face Allsparx Wednesday night for the chance to raise the coveted golden chalise. Mondays semifinals game against Torpedo Vegas was a physical battle between two seasoned teams that ended in a 6 - 4 triumph for the Dirty Birds. Down 2 - 0 early, Jerry Zundel got the Pigeons on the board as he cruised around Vegas defenders to cut the deficit in half. Minutes later a confident Nate Voss skated in uncontested and found the top of the net to tie the game at 2 - 2. A goal by TVs Fidler gave the lead but Brian Howe went glove side to even the score entering the break. A rally call by Eric Stuby on the bench got the Pigeons pumped to play the final stanza. Midway through the final stanza, Dave Taylor entered the zone, skated into the crease and tickled the back of the net for the Pigeons first lead. For the second straight game, Mark Clowney made Pigeons history as he scored the eventual game winner off the face off. As the puck dropped, Clowney spun out of the draw and threw the puck on net. The black biscuit found the far corner to increase the lead to 5 - 3. Fidler scored with 4 minutes on the clock to get Torpedo Vegas close. During a timeout, Matt Sheads put the Pigeons defensive specialists on the rink for the closing minutes. Tom Mull was superior on goal and his squad on front of him clamped down to seal the deal. Jerry Zundel added an empty net goal to give the Birds breathing room. Kyle Burger and Brian Howe each had two assists in the win. After the game, Mark Clowney was quoted as saying since I cant score fancy goals, Ill take the lucky bounces. Clowney has scored the game winner in two straight playoff games. Pigeons v. Allsparx is slated for 8:40 Wednesday.
