PK370: WINDS OF CHANGE Here is the complete version (8 min. 36 sec.) of what happened aboard PIA flight 370 yesterday, Monday, September 15. The flight was supposed to leave Karachi for Islamabad at 7:00 pm but was delayed 1 hour 55 minutes because, as the passengers found out eventually, Mr. Rahman Malik the politician had not arrived and was booked on the flight. Then came Dr. Ramesh Vankvani, the minorities MNA of PML-N, apparently entourage. Passengers greeted him at the door of the aircraft with strong protests and demanded that he should not board the flight. When he refused and took a seat, he was followed there and eventually persuaded to leave the aircraft. When Mr. Rahman Malik arrived a little later, he was also refused entry to the aircraft by passengers standing at the door. He turned back quickly, only to be tailed by voices shouting, Malik Sahib, you should be ashamed of yourself... When he turned back and said something (not audible in the video but apparently something to the effect that it was not his fault), he was greeted with more angry replies such as, It IS your fault. Malik Sahib, you are not a minister anymore, and even if are a minister, we dont care. With due apologies to the two dignitaries who ended up as the unpaid superstars in this blockbuster reality-thriller, the video may be called adrenaline pumping, feel good and one of the best airplane movies you will watch. Suggested rating: PG-12 for brief profanity. Thankfully no violence. Opinions cannot vary too much regarding the moral of the story. Whether we happen to be supporters of PTI and see this as evidence of tabdeeli aa gayee hai, or whether we have reasonable reservations about the leadership of Captain Khan, we cannot disagree with the strong message which this video sends across to those who think that they are above their fellow citizens and deserve preferential treatment at the cost of others. The deeper implication of this moral is likely to skip our attention, however. It is that we, the educated people, have been wrong in blaming the unschooled masses for imposing corrupt politicians on us. The change which we see here is in the attitude, behavior and will of a few educated people. If this class had changed its attitude earlier, things could have changed long ago.
