PLEASE EXERCISE REGULARLY IF YOU HAVE #lupus; exercise if you dont have lupus, exercise if you want to live longer and have a better quality of life! SHARE with everyone who is not exercising regularly, or who wants and needs motivation to continue doing so = very interesting article. Here is an interesting article discussing the role of exercise in giving positive epigenetic effects (thanks to FB friend Gregory S. for letting me steal this link from his page): buff.ly/1ARuZim Scroll down through my previous posts and you will see what a big role epigenetics and exercise play in lupus: buff.ly/1ARuYuT buff.ly/1ARv1qg If you search for medical studies showing positive benefits in lupus and related disorders ... here is what you get: buff.ly/1ARuZip That is more than 26,000 articles! You wont have time to read them... so just do it.... make regular exercise you next life style commitment. 1st... ask your rheumatologist if you are healthy enough to exercise. About the only time someone with lupus should not exercise would be in the midst of a severe, inflammatory systemic lupus flare. They should absolutely exercise regularly if not in a severe flare; such as ... you should exercise even if having pain, fatigue, etc from problems such as fibromyalgia and depression. Mr. Patient sitting on my exam table says, Dr. Thomas, I cant exercise. I hurt too much and Im too tired. When I exercise, I feel like a semi-truck ran over me ... ... you can exercise. Start LOW (even 2 minutes slowly on a stationary bike may be a good start for some people) ... go SLOW ... but be persistent... exercise 5 days weekly. If you need help in learning how to do this for your particular physical condition... ask your doctor to send you to a physical therapist to assess your current abilities then design an exercise program for you .... then just DO it. If you have trouble doing it... followup with that same physical therapist, or enlist the help of a personal trainer (letting them know you need to ease into it). Good luck! SHARE with everyone who is not exercising regularly. by Donald Thomas, MD lupusencyclopedia@gmail buff.ly/1ARv1qh
