PLEASE ~ HELP ~ SHARE! Please help this little baby.... Owner just paid $2600 today... We desperately need your help. Shandy is from the Sunshine State Westie Rescue Facebook site. This twelve year old Westie girl has been through so much. In 2012, her senior owner passed away, and Shandy was dumped by the gentlemans son at a local dog groomers shop in Orlando, where she stayed for three months, suffering through a bladder infection. She was nursed back to health, and placed for adoption In May of this year, where she was adopted into a very loving home. Abruptly, Shandy has become ill and is presently hospitalized for what is believed to be a Super Bug bacterial infection. She has been sick since Friday, June 14, 2013, at which time she stopped eating, while exhibiting signs of gastro distress: vomiting and diarrhea. Her mother took her to the vet first thing the following Monday, June 17, 2013. After a $500 vet bill, her long-term vet advised that he was “stumped”, followed by “well, you know she is getting old”. Devastated and concerned about her little girl, Shandys’ mother reached out for help. After much discussion, it was determined that a second opinion was immediately needed. On Thursday, June 20, 2013, Shandy was taken for a vet consultation at Lake Alfred Animal Hospital, at which time she was immediately admitted due to dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea, a skin infection, and a white blood count off the charts. X-rays did not reveal anything abnormal in her gastro system. She was immediately put on IV, with antibiotics. Since that time, she has become rehydrated, as well as started to show signs of gastro improvement; however, her white blood count has continued to rise. It is believed that she has MRSA Skin and Intestinal Infection, brought on by a lowered immune system due to a medication she had been briefly been taking called Temaril - P. Today, the vet prepared cultures of her skin and gastro, which were sent off to the lab. We are hopeful to finally have a definitive answer as to what is making her so sick; however, if the results provide no insight into what is occurring, she will be sent to a specialty hospital in Maitland, Florida called Affiliated Veterinary Specialists (AVS). At present, there is no idea when she is actually going to be well enough to go home. However, with certainty, we need help raising funds to help offset the mounting expenses. So, please, help us to help Shandy have a chance at life. At twelve years old, she should have many happy years ahead. No donation amount will be viewed as too small. All donations from the fund raiser are being paid for the vetting of Shandy. Updates will be given to all donors on her progress. Besides monetary donations, we are asking for prayers for Shandy.
