PLEASE READ AND CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO VIEW THE ENTIRE ALBUM. We would like to share a story about one of the shelter dogs from Manatee County Animal Services. We hope this may inspire you to help a dog find a fur-ever family. A volunteer (who shall remain anonymous) decided not to wait for someone to drive out to the shelter to adopt, but to be proactive and find a home for one of the orphaned dogs. Following is the story of Hannah. In the early morning hours of May 14, one of our volunteers noticed a lab mix was picked up as a stray and was being held at MCAS. Much to her dismay, this beautiful dog was assigned an obscene name by a prankster at MCAS. When the shelter manager learned of this, her name was changed to Hannah. We immediately began networking Hannah to find a home for her. On May 20, a woman from Portland, Oregon expressed interest in adopting Hannah. We quickly worked out the details, and on May 24th Hannah received an invitation to travel via plane to Portland. We subsequently rescued Hannah from the shelter and found a place for her to stay until the day of her flight. During that time,Hannah received some training to prepare her for her new life. Hannah is now named Lucy, and she is a service dog for a child. Have a happy life in Portland, Miss Lucy, with your fur-ever family! XOXO
