PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST Good Evening TEAM CASHE: so as I promised todays story is not quite over. While getting my bike fixed I talked to Keith about what kind of bike should I probably really be riding on a trip such as this. He showed me one, 24 speads, lightweight, etc that runs around $560. A little later I was talking to Andrea and told her about. Anyway, I guess that gave her an idea. After talking to her I went out front to smoke a cigarette (again I KNOW!) dont say it. I noticed a Schwin Shop across the street and decided to walk over. As it turned out the young man I met had been stationed at Benning and his wife had been in the 3rd ID. He was an MP, Dog Handler who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was wounded by shrapnel in Afghanistan and is medically retired. HIs name is Shawn and his wife is going to the University of Florida for Nursing. He showed me a 21 Speed Schwin thats $309 and said he would do better than that because of what Im doing. I told him I would think about it tonight. So now I walk back to the hotel and have a tex from Andrea so I call her. Even though I had tried to get some sort of sponsorship from Huffy she decided she would call the corporate HQ in Illinois. She connected to an automated system that ask her to enter the last name of the person she wanted to reach. Ofcourse she doesnt know anyone there so she enters the first name that came to her, SMITH. She was connected to a lady who just happened to be an Air Force Vet. Andrea told her what I was doing and why and that I am riding a Huffy, and what happened. She wants to help! IT GETS BETTER. Her name isnt SMITH, she is the Secretary for William Smith, THE CEO OF HUFFY BIKES! Dont ever tell me Al isnt with us!!! She is going to talk to Mr Smith first thing in the morning to see if there is a way Huffy can help us out! So Im going to hold off buying the bike from Shawn until I hear from Andrea. She also contacted ABC Channel 20 and there is a chance they may want to do an interview tomorrow. Nothing firm but alot of good opportunities! NONE OF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT ANDREAS HARD WORK AND EFFORTS. So thats the news for now. Oh, I forgot, I had given the young man at the front desk our Group card and told him what I was doing and why when I checked in. A little bit ago he came outside and said he had gone to our Group, seen more about what we re doing, told his GM, and the GM wants to get a picture of me so he can place it in the Holiday Inn Newsletter along with WHY I am doing it. Ok, so thats whats going on for now. I ll keep you posted! ROCK OF THE MARNE!
