PLEASE READ!!!!!! My son plays soccer for Braden River Soccer Club, a wonderful organization, and I received this email from them tonight. Manatee County Commissioners should be ashamed of themselves for what they are doing!!!! Members: The Executive Board of Directors is asking for your support in our efforts to obtain additional permanent lighting for our fields. For the past several years, we have been seeking approval to light the Westernmost fields at the park. Each effort has been denied, ignored, or otherwise fallen on deaf ears. At significant cost to the club, we leased portable lights to enable to more than 120 players per night to continue practicing on those fields. Despite advising the county of our decision more than two months ago, the county has now taken the position that the lights are not allowed and that we will not be allowed to use the fields beyond dusk, which is currently about 6:45pm and getting earlier each night. The primary reason why the county is taking this position is because a few homes right behind the fence in the Rosedale subdivision have complained about the lights and the noise. Last night, the county instructed the Manatee County Sheriffs to trespass the kids who were on the fields after 6:45 if we put the lights on. As we were rained out, this confrontation did not occur. Tonight, the county sent two sherriffs and two county officials to shut us down on those fields. I am of the opinion that the actions taken by the county over the past two days regarding this matter are deplorable. They have issued an order that the fields be closed at 6:45. We will continue to explore every option possible to keep the kids playing but we are asking for your support. We have created a form that can be sent directly to our county commissioner asking her to support our efforts to provide adequate lighting for our needs. We would ask that everyone please take a couple of minutes to fill out the form which will be sent to commissioner Baugh to let her know that our kids are important and that we are voting, tax paying members of this community as well.
