PLEASE READ...THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY..... After a long day at school he steps off the bus, eager to play with his friends. But first he must find something to eat. Lunch was good, but hours had passed and the emptiness in his belly was heavy. Throwing his backpack on the floor he makes his way to the kitchen. The house is just as empty as the cupboards. Mom and dad will be home soon so he will grab a snack before dinner. Searching up and down , inside each shelf, he is disappointed to see there is nothing to eat. Taking another look around he decides he will wait for dinner. Play time will remove the thought and craving for food. Play time comes and goes, darkness begins to fall. Homework awaits and food is calling his name. He rushes indoors calling out to his parents. Both sitting on the couch, dads eyes closed in sleep, mom holding the baby. He never seen them arrive or he would have been home sooner. Hes ordered to shower and do his homework. He knows this will be something he must do by himself as mom cares for baby and dads fast asleep. His tiny tummy growls and rumbles with hunger pains. Moving slowly he showers and tries hard to concentrate on his work. Whats for dinner? He quietly ask his mom making sure not to wake dad. With a tired glance she nods at the kitchen and tells him to pour some milk and eat a bowl of cereal. By this time hes so hungry hes happy to see the new box of cereal mom picked up on the way home. He sits alone thinking of his day at school . His mind is on breakfast and lunch. Wonder what well have tomorrow he thought to himself as he looked at his empty cereal bowl. The night came and went without so much as a hug, kiss or a goodnight rub on the head. He wakes early after a restless night still feeling pains of hunger that rooted its way into his dreams. He wondered if his baby sister had dinner. Rising to the sunlight that peeked into his window, he chose a shirt and shorts he had worn the day before. Maybe no one would notice. Slipping into his parents room he tried to wake them from slumber. It was useless. As he walked to the bus, his belly hurt just as bad as his heart. School was a place of comfort and healing for him. He felt a sence of security there like no place hed known before. As the bus rolled into the bus lane, children squealed with excitement. He was just so happy to be here, for breakfast was waiting. Hed have friends to play with and teachers to pat his head. Lunch would come soon and hed see smiling faces as he walks through the line, picking up cold milk, fresh juice and a tray full of hot food. Smiling to himself he walked swiftly to the lunchroom for breakfast. His little tummy contemplating what was on the menu. It didnt really matter, he was ready for this meal.
