PLEASE SHARE!! Commenting on the Observer story and George Osbornes BBC interview about more powers for the Scottish Parliament, the chief executive of Yes Scotland Blair Jenkins said that the panic-stricken No campaign is offering nothing new - just the same Westminster control and Tory-led governments that people in Scotland didn’t vote for. In a BBC interview this morning, Scottish Secretary said that it was just a new statement of something I’ve been saying for months, and on the BBC News Channel said its nothing new. And on the BBC Sunday Politics show he was unable to provide any information about what George Osborne was referring to. And Treasury Chief Secretary Danny Alexander on a Bauer Radio interview could only refer to the existing offers of the No campaign parties. On Saturdays Good Morning Scotland, Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie said we would never support (what Alex Bell calls) Devo Max. Mr Jenkins said the fact that the Westminster parties are trying to cobble together a panicky PR package just days before the referendum demonstrates they were never serious about substantial new powers for Scotland - which only a Yes vote can deliver. Mr Jenkins said: “This is nothing more than a panic reaction by George Osborne to the success of the Yes campaign on the ground and in the polls. The people of Scotland are not going to fall for a gimmick from a Tory Chancellor just ten days before the referendum, and a No campaign which is mired in confusion. It was patently obvious that the Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael had no idea what George Osborne was talking about - he even described it as nothing new - and Treasury Chief Secretary Danny Alexander could only refer to the existing meagre offers by the No campaign parties. The No campaign are making it up as they go along - and the wheels are coming off. On BBC radio this weekend, Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie made it abundantly clear that he would never support Devo-Max - so the only way to gain control of all tax and spending in Scotland, which over 60 per cent of people in Scotland want, is to vote Yes. Westminster has never been serious about substantial new powers for Scotland - thats why they fought tooth and nail to keep it off the referendum ballot paper - and the people of Scotland will see right through Mr Osbornes desperate gambit. Having failed to scare the people of Scotland, this empty bribe isnt going to work either - people know that the only way to get job-creating powers and the full range of levers we need to build a fairer society and more prosperous economy is to vote Yes for an independent Scotland. This empty talk by George Osborne - which according to the Scottish Secretary is nothing new - is only going to galvanise the Yes vote. More and more people are moving to Yes as they realise that independence means a once in a lifetime opportunity to use the vast wealth of Scotland to build a more prosperous and fairer country. “A defining moment in this campaign was when the leader of the No campaign, Alistair Darling, couldn’t name a single new job-creating power that would come to Scotland with a No vote. “Whatever they say now, the only thing guaranteed with a No vote is that Westminster would be in charge – which means a Tory Chancellor imposing £25 billion more cuts no matter the impact on the lives of people in Scotland, and a Labour opposition which accepts his spending plans. “The No parties seem to have realised too late the compelling argument for independence that decisions about Scotland are best taken by the people in Scotland. “That’s why we need a Yes vote to achieve the full-range of job-creating powers, control over Scotland’s budget to protect our NHS from the financial impact of Westminster privatisation and cuts, social security powers to stop the Tories dismantling our welfare state, and all the powers available to a normal independent country. “Scotland is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. We’re better off with Scotland’s future in Scotland’s hands - rather than Westminster parties for whom Scotland will never be a priority.” Posted by Peter Dempsie, 07.09.14
