PLEASE SHARE!!!!!! PFLAG BRUNSWICK TO HOST AIDS MEMORIAL QUILT AT COLLEGE OF COASTAL GEORGIA BRUNSWICK, GA – – Sections of the internationally celebrated AIDS Memorial Quilt – the 54-ton, handmade tapestry that stands as a memorial to more than 94,000 individuals lost to AIDS – will be on display on August 22nd and 23rd at the College of Coastal Georgia. This free display of The AIDS Memorial Quilt is being hosted by the Brunswick chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of... Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). In a war against a disease that has no cure, The AIDS Memorial Quilt has evolved as our most potent tool in the effort to educate against the lethal threat of AIDS which affects people from every walk of life. In 2009 Coastal Georgia ranked 5th of the 10 health districts in Georgia in the incidence of AIDS and Georgia had the sixth highest reported number of AIDS cases in the nation. By revealing the humanity behind the statistics, The AIDS Memorial Quilt helps to teach compassion. Justin Bell, the Chair of the North Florida Quilt Chapter explains that "The Quilt incorporates a message of hope, promotes conversation, and allows for the reality that AIDS continues to take lives." Alicia Lewis, President of PFLAG Brunswick, notes, “I am honored to be part of this remarkable opportunity to display sections of the celebrated AIDS Memorial quilt in our community for the first time.” For more information on PFLAG Brunswick, please check out their Facebook page by going to facebook/pflagbrunswick. The Quilt Exhibit will be on display in the Campus Center Lobby (building 3, College Drive.) on Thursday, August 22nd, 10 to 6 with opening ceremony at 10 am and Friday, August 23rd, from 10-4 with a closing ceremony at 3:30.
