PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH YOUR LISTS - THE August 26 PRIMARY ELECTION IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT Public education is one of the bedrocks of our democracy and local officials often more immediately affect the quality of life in a community than do those sent to Tallahassee and Washington. Marion County voters are fortunate to have many opportunities before the August 26 primary to question current and prospective members of its school board since different forums and questions elicit varying responses, broadening ones understanding of a candidates views especially when all candidates agree to participate in the non-partisan process. The issues are too critical for party politics rather than informed exploration of issues vital to all of us and serious candidates need to be willing to submit to full public scrutiny before assuming overwhelmingly important public responsibilities. Voters are invited to join with moderators Dr. Joyce Blake and Rev. Bruce Seaman when current and prospective members of the Marion County School Board appear at the Friday Forum which meets at 11:30 a.m. July 11 at Ocean Buffet, State Road 200 and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. We invite your questions and concerns in advance by responding to this email or submitting them at the luncheon this Friday. All candidates have been invited. Bobby James, Jane Moerlie, Jim Touchton, Jamie Bevan and Diane Schrier have accepted. Chase Basinger, Angie Boynton, Kelly King and Ed Wilson have declined. Please note that the Marion County Public School Board Governance and Organization policies state that the School Board is responsible for the organization and control of the public schools of the District and is empowered to determine the policies necessary for the effective operation and the general improvement of the school system.
