PLEASE SHARE There is a new scam out there where you get a very convincing phone call that there is a warrant for your arrest due to back taxes owed. These scammers are very convincing that theyre trying to help you avoid being taken straight to jail without bond. I know of 3 people in Fayette Co that received this phone call within the last few days. We learned from the police that an elderly woman was just scammed out of nearly $2000 with this scam. The phone number appears to be long distance but the police believe the scammers have a way of changing where the call is coming from. You may read this and think that no one would ever fall for this, but several have gotten this call and say that its VERY convincing. Do not PAY anyone ANYTHING if they call you on the phone with threats. Tell them to send the police over- and then call the police yourself to let them know of the threat. Help protect the vulnerable by making loved ones aware of scams like this.
