PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION Stop Pa. Department of Public Welfare from attempting to abolish Village View Independent Living DPW has accused DCCCI of illegally operating an assisted living residence because we provide home care and Medicaid waiver services to low income tenants who live in the independent living unit. We do not understand why DPW has leveled these charges against DCCCI as they have been providing such services at the behest and with the approval of the Commonwealth since 2002. All of the home care services that they provide, whether through Medicaid waiver or by individual contract, are licensed and regulated by the Department of Health. DCCCI does not directly provide health care services to their tenants as they are not licensed to do so. Most recently the DPW Personal Care Home inspectors began questioning the ILU and the provision of client services through PDA and Home care. There were several visits to review the status of that unit. On May 20, 2013, DuBois Continuum of Care received a letter from DPW stating that the clients on the IL unit met the definition of Assisted Living eligible clients and that unless the unit is either licensed as Assisted Living or ceases to provide services, a $500 fine and financial penalties of $200 per day will be enforced. DCCCI has since filed an appeal, but we as the community, consumers and or family members need your signature to help the government office understand how this false accusation could possibly disrupt and destroy the independence the current consumers enjoy and the future of an important service we may find necessary at some time in the future and the right we have to choose where to reside and who can provide the minimal services we need to remain healthy and happy.
