PLEASE SUPPORT From: Minister P.D. Men elik Harris Date: 6/6/2013 Subject: Press President Obama for a Dr. M.L. King Africa Plan During Africa Year As President Barak Obama prepares to leave to Africa on June 26, 2013, the people of America are urged to contact Washington to press President Barack Obama and key Congressional leaders to promote a positive and peaceful relationship with Africa as the African Union (AU) commemorate African Liberation Year. President Obama is planning to take about 1,200 Americans on his trip to Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania to promote and strengthen U.S. economic and policy interests across Africa. The Obama visit to Africa comes directly after the May 25, 2013 Africa Year 50th commemoration of the establishment of OAU/AU to unify and liberate Africans from the colonialism and the vestiges of centuries of the slavery of African people. The AU anniversary resolution calls for African leaders to expedite the full integration of Africa as envisioned by those like President Kwame Nkrumah. Obama’s visit to Africa also comes on the eve of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 1963 March on Washington to promote civil rights for African people and the oppressed people across the USA and the world. Thereafter, King urged the African Americans to also take added responsibility to help our “Ancestral Homeland, Africa. Further, the trip to Africa comes during the new scramble for African resources with fierce competition from global powers like China , the European Union, India, Brazil and others to control Africa’s wealth. His Excellency Kofi Annan former United Nations Secretary General recently called the economic assault on Africa a “plundering” “like taking food off the table for the poor.” The African Diaspora and all Americans should use this as an opportunity to immediately contact the White House, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and other members of Congress to urge President Obama to enact a Martin Luther King, Jr. (Marshall) Plan to: 1. Establish a Reparations education fund for African and African American students who have suffered from the traumatic legacy of enslavement to have free education at any Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the USA and a commitment to serve in any of disadvantaged African communities in the world; 2. Halt the militarization and Africom expansion in Africa and to promote human rights, justice, peace and economic partnership with those African nations that are promoting the union of Africa, and those serving and protecting the interests of African people; 3. Support and promote a resolution for the people of the USA to recognize May as Africa Month annually by encouraging African festivals, heritage education and public forums on Africa; 4. Help stop the onerous scourge of the corporate “land grab” invasion and attacks across Africa from desperate families; and 5. Prioritize and encourage the African Diaspora economic education, training programs and capital development to promote business, trade, and investments with African nations to foster economic ties, for the rebuilding of historic communities belonging to African descent.
