PLEASE say its not true RIP, Kenny Wheeler, RIP Your belief in me and so many others at the The Banff Centres summer jazz workshop, in 1981 & 1983, not to mention your many glorious recordings over the years for ECM Records -- featuring innovators such as Jan Garbarek, Michael Brecker, Dave Holland, Keith Jarrett, Jack DeJohnette, Norma Winstone, John Abercrombie and so many, many more -- changed an entire generations jazz harmony, form, composition, arranging and lyricism for soloists, chamber ensembles & large ensembles - let alone brass players. For years, whenever I found myself over-anxious before a concert, Id simply put on some of your soaring, if melancholy, music so as to quickly regain my calm & center. The resultant relaxed mind set would always translate to better sensitivity in performances & relationships with other young and stressed New York colleagues. Your personal correspondences over the years also touched so many in our younger generation(s). Thank you from the bottom of my heart and artistic being, as your humility, compassion, vision and unassuming (dry) humored personality continues to be an alternative, and a truly great example, to our world that is full of extroverts & insecure egos. Your life & music lives, and lives well. Peace be with you, my/our friend, peace be with you and yours.
