PM Browne Congratulates Cuban Medical Scholarship Recipients ST. JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda – Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne has congratulated the five recipients of Cuban medical scholarships as they prepare to commence their studies in Havana over the weekend. Upon Prime Minister Browne entering office, the Cuban Government in a goodwill gesture, granted five medical, two dentistry and five general studies scholarships for qualified Antiguan and Barbuda students to pursue studies at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana and other major universities throughout the republic. “Cuba has once again demonstrated that they are a true friend of Antigua and Barbuda and my government is committed to rekindling the ties that the Labour Party Administration developed and nurtured many years ago,” said PM Browne. Prime Minister Browne who is a strong supporter of educational development, having granted a number of scholarships to members of his community on a personal basis, told the recipients that a golden opportunity has been presented to them and they must capitalize on it and make the nation of Antigua and Barbuda proud. The students were also commended by Education Minister the Hon. Michael Browne, Foreign Affairs Minister the Hon. Charles Fernandez, Culture and Sports Minister the Hon. Chet Greene and Cuban Ambassador Gustavo Veliz. The five recipients of the scholarships are Sasha Ambrose, Brian Byers, Shada Dorville, Shiraul Joseph and Tamir Patterson.
