PM got back from his trip to North Africa and spoke to a big crowd of his supporters on his arrival at Istanbul. (noone knows why he didnt fly directly back to Ankara which is the capital) His speech is perceived by the protesters as very divisive and provocative. The highlight of the speech was when the crowd started chanting "Let us go to Taksim and kill them all" referring to the protesters who are still in Gezi Park Taksim. The PM gave no reaction to this chant whatsoever just as you would do as a "responsible" PM. Here is the whole speech (taken from t24) Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan is back from his trip to Moroco, Tunisia and Algeria which he started on the 7th day of the Gezi Park Protests. In Tunisia he said that they will not step back with the plans to demolish Gezi Park and build an Ottoman-era style barracks and during his speech at his arrival to Turkey he stated that “We are the servants of not only the 50% but all 76 million people in Turkey”. Regarding the police intervention at Gezi Park, he said “Our police forces did their job. They might have used excessive force when necessary. As my deputy prime minister mentioned before, my interior minister is looking into it. Nobody can attack us with this excuse” He added “My dear Istanbulites, noone can stop the rise of Turkey but God.” Recep Tayyip Erdogan was greeted by a large crowd tonight outside Ataturk Airport on his return from his trip to Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. Here is the speech Erdogan gave outside the airport which looked more like a pep rally; “My brothers, dear Istanbulites, my beloved companions. I salute my grandmothers, my sisters. I salute my hardworking farmers, all my worker brothers. I salute my young brothers who are as humble, great and proud as Turkey. From Istanbul now, I salute Sarajevo, Baku, Baghdad, Damascus, Gaza, Mecca and Medina. And of course I salute Istanbul time and time with its every neighbourhood from the bottom of my heart. I am bringing you the greetings of my brothers in Morocco, in Tunisia, in Algeria. Let God make our unity an everlasting one. We have never been heartbreakers, we would only restore broken hearts. But we stood tall, didn’t buck up. We wouldn’t have any business in fighting, in vandalism. My dear brothers we only know to build. I stress that we are where we are despite the interest lobby. And this interest lobby thinks that they can threaten us by speculating in the stock market. They must know something well which is that we wouldn’t allow them to feed on people’s hard work. If a general manager of a bank says that he is with the organizers of vandalism he will find us against him. We have come to this day by growing the Turkish economy. We have come to this day by glorifying our people. The world is talking about Turkey, about Turkish people. Why are these things happening at a time like this? We have come to this day by believing that if you show patience you will reach victory. Everyone must know that we have come to this day by growing Turkey with brotherhood. We have never singled out any individual from 76 million. My brothers some says “The Prime Minister is only the prime minister of 50%” Shame on you. We have always declared that we are the servants of 76 million. We served from the east to the west with no discrimination. People rising against us are rising because we serve. They are trying to succeed what they coulnd’t succeed in ballot box. Noone’s thoughts have been excluded by us. Not of the 50%’s we are the servants of 76 million not masters. We are Turkey together. We read, analyze and assess objectively all that happens in Turkey and take the necessary steps. AKP’s purpose is never conflict or polarization. But they should know that we are the generation of Asim. They don’t like that. As Akif says; I can’t applaud oppression, never love the cruel I can’t curse at the gone for the pleasure of the coming. If one attacks at my ancestors, I even suffocate! No you can’t. At least I chase him away. I can’t bark like a dog behind three and a half degenerate And I can’t worship injustice in the name of just even if I die. I am in love with independence eversince I was born No golden tulip has ever been my leash Even if I am kind, who says I am a docile sheep? You could cut my head perhaps but never pull it from my neck. My liver hurts if I see a bleeding wound I get whipped, kicked to stop the bleeding Can’t say “don’t bother, just walk by.” I step on or get stepped on but eventually I stood up the justice. I am a foe of the cruel but I love the oppressed. Is this what reaction is in your dialect? My dear brothers it’s the nation who has put us in charge and it’s only them who can take us off. Nobody outside our nation can say a word on this. Noone outside the ballot box can have a say on this. We have protected this sacred duty as we would our lives for 10,5 years. We will continue to do so as we would our lives. We just cannot allow anyone to act illegally, to attack democracy, to vandalise, to destroy cities, public property. This protest which was organized for 15 trees in Gezi park left three deaths behind. 2 young people died and a police chief martyrized. My brothers, my police chief’s martyrdom is as significant as these two young people’s deaths. Whose police officer is he? Whom is he serving for? He serves to protect our lives. Sometimes against terrorists, sometimes anarchists and sometimes against vandalism. They are telling me to order the police to withdraw. Our police forces have done their job against those who attack even other people. They might have used excessive force when necessary. As my deputy prime minister mentioned before, my interior minister is looking into it. Nobody can attack us with this excuse. The unborn baby of our police chief has been left an orphan. Cities have been looted, these deviant people went as far as burning a Turkish flag. They attacked on a junk collector’s life. These artists, journalists, politicians provoked people very irresponsibly. The protests which lost its democratic nature and turned vandalism should stop immediately. Our citizens who started this with their sincere feelings should see the provocations of the terrorist groups and avoid themselves. Whatever we do we should to within the borders of lawfulness and democracy. Any methods except this will be seen as illegal and we will fight it. My dear brothers you haven’t given up on being proud and sensible for the last 10 days. Now we will go home and we won’t give up on being sensible and reasonable. You don’t have sauce pans in your hands do you? Now this is very important. You are not the ones that go on the streets with saucepans in your hands. This youth will be the ones with computers in their hands. We will continue our battle decisively for Turkey. My young brothers, you are the hope of oppressed. You are the role models of the middle east, the Balcans. You will think big, take big steps, walk towards big goals. You will not be tricked, you will not be deceived, you will not cheat. I thank every single one of you. I embrace all Turkish youth on your behalf. I salute all my brothers on earth from the bottom of my heart. My dear Istanbulites, noone can stop the rise of Turkey but God. My condolences to the family of our martyr police chief. Be happy if we die or return home. Don’t think this wheel would remain on a bumb. Tomorrow is of course, of course ours. May God be our lover and helper, let our fortune be bright. May God be with you.
