PNG ‘rock solid’: Tonga THE Tonga Ma’a — boasting - TopicsExpress

PNG ‘rock solid’: Tonga THE Tonga Ma’a — boasting nearly 90 percent Australian National Rugby League talent — arrived yesterday at the Jackson International Airport, and their first impression of Papua New Guinean Rugby League players was — they are “rock solid”. Sitaleki-Moala Akau’ola, when asked what he thought about the Papua New Guinean Kumuls, said abruptly: “Yeah, I heard they are rock solid.” His counterpart, Epeteli Viliami Fine nodded to Akau’ola sentiments, as the team drifted into the arrival lounge to rebook their tickets for the transit onto Lae yesterday. “It’s our first time in PNG. And it’s quite hotter than Brisbane but not much hotter than Tonga,” Fine said. “It is pretty much the same.” Tonga is yet to name their captain but all agree this will be one of their hardest matches. Akau’ola said they were expecting a hard, competitive game but welcomed the experience. “It should be a tough game. We don’t know who our captain is as yet but we expect to find that out as soon as we get there — or maybe later. “I think today’s schedule will be for us to rest up and then start training tomorrow (today),” Fine said.
