PNoy OKs Bohol bridges restoration, 12 other projects President Benigno Aquino III and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) board on Friday approved P307-billion worth of government projects, including the restoration of bridges in Bohol damaged by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake last year. During a meeting, the NEDA board authorized the release of P81 million to reconstruct 14 bridges along the Bohol Circumferential Road severely damaged by the powerful quake. The board also greenlighted the P122.81-billion Laguna Lakeshore Expressway-Dike project, earlier described by the government as the biggest project of the Aquino administration to be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. The road dike is expected to ease traffic to and from provinces in south of Luzon, and to prevent flooding in the western coastal communities along Laguna Lake. Two infrastructure projects were also approved by the NEDA board: the P1.27-billion underpass project along Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati, and the P4.01-billion Metro Manila interchange construction project. Aquino and the NEDA board also allowed efforts to develop four airports: the Iloilo Airport (P30.40 billion), the Bacolod Airport (P20.26 billion), the Davao Airport (P40.57 billion) and the Puerto Princesa Airport (P5.23 billion). The Davao Sasa Port Modernization project, worth P18.99 billion, was also approved. Some P50.18 billion was also allocated for the construction and maintenacnce regional prison facilities, which is projected to accommodate 26,000 inmates.
