PODCAST 345 FROM DONSPODRADIO/CKW/RADIO MAX - REMEMBRANCE DAY in Canada and VETERANS DAY in the United States. Friends; Today, we put aside the rock and roll music and devote two hours in tribute to those who fought for the freedom we now so dearly cherish - which includes the freedom to be able to produce programs such as this for worldwide distribution via the internet. Imagine for a moment what the world might be like today had the Allies been unsuccessful in both the European and the Pacific theaters of war! What might Canada, the United States and Great Britain look like today, had people like my father stayed home rather than volunteer to head over-seas to fight along side other Canadian, American, British and Allied soldiers in places like Holland, Belgium and later, Italy. During the week prior to November 11, I wear my poppy, not only with pride but also with a sense of humility - for it not only signifies the great loss suffered by many families whose fathers, husbands, brothers and sons did not come home, but the great privilege I have living in a country that since my birth, 66 years ago, has not required me to bear arms, to go abroad and fight (and possibly die) for my country! So, as we count down the days prior to November 11, take some time to reflect on all the good things our country has to offer us and how it came to be! Yes, nothing is prefect, but even with its imperfections, Canada is a pretty good place to call home - thanks Dad! So I will wear my red poppy proudly as a symbol of recognition to those who fought for what I have today. As the years pass, the images of the horror of war fade, so it is up to us all to take time to REMEMBER - LEST WE FORGET! Thank-you for listening to this program. I trust you will enjoy the stories and the music of the war years 1939 to 1945. Don.....
