POLICE ARREST ELEVEN Police have arrested 11 men for various crimes ranging from robbery to house breaking and theft during the festive season. A press release from Botswana Police Service says a 61-year-old Indian national has been arrested after he was found in possession of 900kg of copper wire suspected to have been stolen. It says the suspect was arrested after the copper wire was found in bags following a raid at his scrap yard at Broadhurst Industrial in Gaborone. It says the suspect alleges that he bought the copper wires from unknown persons. The man is likely to be charged for possession of suspected stolen property. Police investigations are continuing. The release further says police in Tutume arrested five men aged between 22 and 31 years in connection with robbery of a warehouse in the village. It says four of the five suspects are Batswana and one Zimbabwean. Goods amounting to over P2000 were recovered from the suspects on Tuesday January 6. The suspects were arrested along Tutume/Sebina road. It is said the stolen goods included beverages and foodstuffs. In another case, it says, a 19 year-old man of Gabane has been arrested for a series of house breaking and theft offences that occurred on Christmas day in Mogoditshane. The police recovered eight radio speakers, a DVD player and clothing. In Gaborone, the police arrested two men aged 25 years also for house breaking and theft. A television set and various foodstuffs were seized from the suspects. Two Zimbabwean men aged 28 and 36 years were arrested at Dibete roadblock after they were found in possession of a television, laptop and a canon camera suspected to have been stolen. Exhibits have been seized pending investigation.
