POLICE WARNING OF BOGUS EMAILS Bogus email warning – Lockerbie Police are reminding members of the public to be aware of the dangers associated with bogus emails. The warning comes after a local farmer received an email requesting to purchase bull semen for cattle breeding. However the farmer became suspicious as the amount requested was over ten times the usual amount requested by most customers. The person then requested bank details from the farmer however due to the suspicion this was declined. Once alternative arrangements had been made a cheque arrived that was more than double the amount agreed. The farmer took the cheque to her local bank who advised she contact police. The transaction was terminated and no money or goods were lost by the farmer. Police advice is to never give out personal or banking details to someone you do not know. Always check that the person requesting the information is genuine. Remember if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you receive any correspondence, whether letter, text, phone call or email, and it appears to be suspicious, to not reply and hand all information to the police.
