POLITICS | I just got blocked by someone after pushing back on the ridiculousness of her stances about all things related to politics, history, and whatnot - especially as it related to the Israeli / Hamas situation. I also took exception to her point that communism and capitalism result in the same outcome (oh man, talk about shooting fish in a barrel). I was called a bigot, stupid, an idiot, and uneducated - simply because I disagreed with her and pointed out why. Im pretty impervious to such attacks because I dont take discussions on politics, history, etc. personally - but not everyone can handle push back the way I can. Ive had a lot of practice over the years being the odd man out when it comes to these things - and I appreciate those who stick around on my page (or let me invade theirs) when we talk about controversial subjects. This is the mental chess and good that comes out of discussing hard topics. I think its healthy to get ones views challenged and be able to discuss them. It does two things: 1) makes you think about your POV and whether it can withstand challenges or criticisms 2) it makes the other person do the same. The blocking of people based on these types of conversations is why the world continues to be a damaged place - communication ends, attacks continue without honest reflection, and no one allows their opinions to be modified - because it is too difficult and painful. Much easier to tow the line and parrot what other people tell them to believe - or just shout out opposing views with personal attacks, etc. I feel sorry for people like that - because they cant handle anything that opposes their world view. Its going to be hard life for folks that are rigid like that. Hell, if I blocked people simply because I disagreed with them on politics, history, etc, Id have NO connections on this FB thing. lol. But life goes on. It was entertaining while it lasted. Oh, and #goodriddance. :P
