POLK UPDATE - Current estimated timeline from the SFMTA: - Late 11-2014: Polk Project Environmental Review Report published - 18 Nov 2014: Van Ness BRT presented to SFMTA Board - Dec 2014/Early 2015: Polk Project Public Hearing - Dec. 2014/Early 2015: Polk Project presented to SFMTA Board - Winter 2015/2016: Polk Construction begins - 2016-17: Van Ness BRT construction begins after Polk is complete 15 min. video description here: https://youtube/watch?v=-Z5d5Np58lo current status here: sfmta/projects-planning/projects/polk-streetscape-project The overall project will include roadway replacement with many safety improvements, lighting enhancements, and streetscape upgrades. Those that will be implemented before final construction include: red curbing intersections (no parking x-distance from corners), leading signal intervals that give a WALK signal before vehicles get greens, cycling safety measures at key intersections, and new loading zones to reduce double parking. The Project is currently undergoing Environmental Review with a full report on impacts of transportation changes and construction activities. This timeline was extended from previous estimates to include air quality and archaeological assessments.
