POLL: nearly 25% of Evangelicals believe God is more Divine than Jesus Christ, while 50% believe the Holy Spirit is a force and not a Person. And we wonder why Jesus examples, teachings, and embodiment have been diminished in the Church? We emulate the deities we worship. In this case, since God is hierarchically above Jesus and the Holy Spirit, then Jesus is subjected to punishment by the Father while the Holy Spirit is merely a tool to be manipulated. Jesus is relegated to a second class citizen in the Trinity, who acts as a get out of hell card in the scheme of salvation--almost an afterthought, a paratrooper Good who saves the day and then beams back up. In like fashion, emulating this deity, we feel divinely empowered to use tools at our disposal to subjugate others, to punish those beneath us, to do what God wills to others and sometimes, even to ourselves. Therefore, when we are punished we think God is merely exercising Gods sovereignty over us.
