PORTUGAL - Bus March & Port Blockade The main trade union of Portugal (CGTP) called a protest for 19/10/2013 that included crossing the 25th of April bridge (connecting Lisbon and Almada) by foot. However, the government opposed this and for a time neither side buckled. People were hopeful that CGTP finally would become more forceful. However, they relented and changed the walk to a bus trip across the bridge, which infuriated a lot of people. What is especially grievous is that the government used unconstitutional laws and claimed powers it doesnt have to deny the right to protest. Relenting validated these claims, which might make future protests more complicated. Dissatisfied people called a protest to follow CGTPs to block the entrance to the port of Lisbon. Exports are an obsession of the government, which is also busy destroying the rights of the dockworkers. Despite the heavy presence of undercover police, everything happened without trouble.
