POSITION: PROGRAM COORDINATOR PROGRAM: COMMUNITY GARDENS REPORTS TO: NUTRITION, HEALTH & WELLNESS (NHW) PROGRAM MANAGER STATUS: PART-TIME (12 hours/week) RATE OF PAY: $ 15.95PER HOUR APPLY BY: OPEN UNTIL FILLED POSITION SUMMARY Staff is responsible for community garden projects in the City of Stanton. This program works with the residents, businesses and school district to begin and sustain student/resident led community gardens. Duties include establishing and maintaining multi-sector contacts as well as planning, scheduling, and implementing outreach and education to families, neighborhoods, and organizations. Communicate in Spanish and English is required. A translation and computer literacy test will be administered. Must pass all test to be considered for interview. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Coordinate care and gardener relations of community/school garden(s). 2. Coordinate and facilitate activities at/for the garden(s). 3. Recruit gardeners and garden sponsors/partners. 4. Call meetings and activate a phone tree as needed. 5. Work with gardeners to plan any desired events. 6. Support activities and projects targeted at resident/school sustainability of garden(s). 7. Support collaborative organizations and bridge building with external decision makers. 8. Implement and evaluate neighborhood projects. 9. Maintain communication with gardeners. 10. Secure seeds, plants, plots and other items as needed. 11. Incorporate nutrition education in the gardening curriculum. 12. Other duties may be assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must possess a general knowledge of: 1. Knowledge of nutrition, health, wellness, policy and advocacy. 2. Planning organizational techniques to develop and implement action plans. Working efficiently with demanding time constrains. 3. Knowledge of planning, implementing and evaluating community projects. 4. Must have English/Spanish communication skills. APPLICANT MUST POSSESS THE ABILITY TO: 1. Analyze and interpret various materials to make recommendations; understand and apply program rules, regulations and procedures. Be responsible for completion of complex tasks requiring professional skills. 2. Be independent and self-directed. Exercise considerable judgment. 3. Read, write, and speak English effectively to communicate clearly and concisely. Produce error free documents. 4. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency’s staff and representatives of other organizations. 5. Effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals or groups, managers, clients, and the general public. 6. Perform mathematical skills sufficient to create, compose or compile information on computer or complete forms for reports or presentations. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT and OUTLOOK. Position requires computer literacy and use of portable devices including, projector, cell phones and copiers. 7. Possess a valid California Driver’s License, proof of vehicle insurance, access to a vehicle and willingness to drive/travel when required. 8. Fluently speak, read, and write English/Spanish is required. 9. Work occasional evening and/or weekend. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Preferred some college experience, and 1-2 years or more related experience.
