POST OFFICE: PAY 2012 AND BEYOND AND THE FUTURE OF THE CROWN - TopicsExpress

POST OFFICE: PAY 2012 AND BEYOND AND THE FUTURE OF THE CROWN OFFICE NETWORK – NOTICE FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION We would like to provide Branches and members with an update with regards to the Crown Office dispute. An informal meeting took place today with Chris Day, Chief Financial Officer, the Post Office. Whilst a good exchange of views transpired, there was no movement on the Post Office’s part with regards to finding a solution to the dispute. We therefore have no option other than to serve notice for further industrial action. The following strike action has been endorsed by the Postal Executive and will take place as follows: Thursday 20th June – from 2pm until the end of normal duty Saturday 29th June – all day The full Post Office Board is due to meet next week, and we believe that serving notice for both strike dates simultaneously will concentrate the minds of the Board members and bring the topic of the dispute high on to the agenda of the meeting. It is imperative that they discuss a resolution to the current impasse. Urgent Meeting Sought with Alice Perkins, Chairman and Paula Vennells, Chief Executive Given the seriousness of the situation, and the fact that the Post Office is currently unwilling to move towards us to resolve the dispute, we have taken the decision to write to Alice Perkins, Chairman, and Paula Vennells, Chief Executive, seeking an urgent meeting, in order to find a way to resolve the dispute to the satisfaction of our members working in Crown Offices. Post Office Profits & Managers’ Bonus Payments The Post Office is due to announce an operating profit for 2012/13 of £94m in the near future. This will be published in the forthcoming Report & Accounts. Yet, the Post Office still insists that they can’t afford to give our members a fair and decent consolidated pay increase. Also, managers were informed earlier this week via “focus online” of the calculations used to determine their annual bonus for 2012/13. The bonus is calculated on overall business performance, combined with personal contribution (based on PDR score). Managers, particularly those who score highly on their PDRs, will receive substantial sums (a significant element of which is also pensionable) with June salaries. Some managers will receive as much as 23% of salary, which will amount to thousands of pounds. No doubt our Crown members will be incensed by this, especially as the Post Office want them to have a pay freeze for 3 years. Press Release A CWU press release in relation to the Industrial Action notice is attached to this LTB for your information. Parliamentary Event We are in the process of organising a parliamentary event to raise the profile of our dispute with MPs and to highlight the Post Office’s franchising plans. This event will take place before the summer recess. Further developments in this regard will be reported. Yours sincerely Dave WardAndy Furey Deputy General Secretary (P)Assistant Secretary
