POSTBAG RDA MUST HELP CHINGOLA RESIDENTS Editor, With the onset of the rainy season around the corner, may I say RDA has again failed Chingola residents. One just needs to go to the neighbouring towns of Chililabombwe, Kitwe, Kalulushi and Mufulira and see how seriously road infrastructure rehabilitation works have been taken; roads are being constructed and drainages worked on. But why not Chingola? This is the biggest question that has been on people’s lips for some time now. Just recently, there were a lot of media reports to the effect that RDA had finally engaged serious contractors to work on dilapidated Chingola roads but to date, the said contractors are nowhere in sight, and nobody seems to care to tell us what is happening. Loyce Saili and Hon Simuusa are even on record assuring Chingola residents that to beat time, considerations for quick but transparent tender procedures were being considered. Yet, only a few weeks before the onset of the rainy season, the roads are still undone. Why is Chingola the only or most neglected town on the Copperbelt despite its extensive contribution to the GDP of this country? I, therefore, appeal to RDA to expedite the process of giving us credible road contractors and always give feedback when their plan fails to bear fruit within the stipulated time. More importantly, they should always announce the time frame for the completion of projects. Why is RDA failing the people of Chingola? What explanation are they not giving the people of Chingola. Why are the roads here not a priority? Wisdom Muyunda
