POUNDIES UPDATE #2 (AND an idea to prevent other dogs dying in this pound!) Right – we have the lucky 4! Old male sarplaninac (Chester), young female sarplaninac (Lily) and Blondie & Smokey the two puppies! Here’s the latest; CHESTER, the old Sarp, has (or had) an owner. CLEARLY a wonderful human being who used this dog until he almost destroyed it, then dumped it in a kill pound after a life of loyal service! We are contacting the owner to sign the dog over to us and get his passport organised. He’s not putting weight on one back leg so we will get that investigated next week. Obviously needs a bath/groom as soon as he’s settled into his foster home. Not sure how old he is, but we’ll know soon. LILY is a younger female sarplaninac of around 4. She’s in fairly good shape and hadn’t been in the pound long. She is a stray and wasn’t chipped before us. We will have her checked out next week when she is settled, and neutered when appropriate. BLONDIE & SMOKY are about 8/9 weeks old. They are FULL of worms and fleas and in a pretty bad state. They went straight to the vet from the pound for urgent treatment. Next week will be critical for them. ALL these guys, if they survive, will be looking for homes and should be in the UK around February time. But the story doesn’t end there. We can’t just take 4 dogs and forget the rest. We have learned that there are, in fact, SIXTY dogs in this pound, thats DOUBLE what we were initially told. This pound has a terrible reputation and we would like to set up regular visits and food supplies to try and help improve the quality of life for the poor paws who are stuck there. So, yet again, we ask you, our marvellous supporters, for help. You have all responded so strongly to this appeal, and we couldn’t be more grateful. So, would you consider setting up a monthly direct debit/PayPal payment of £5-£10 (or lower/higher) to us that is SPECIFICALLY for us to use at this pound? This would allow us to keep an eye on the dogs there (it buys us the ‘right’ to see where our money is going) and let the volunteers in the area go in and know that they are supported and can ask for help for the most desperate cases. We want to do all we can to prevent little puppies like Angel (the puppy we lost) dying alone, in pain and in filth. And maybe we can build relationships with the workers there and they might help us help the pups…who knows… If you would be able to help the poundies long term, please comment here. Again, thank you.
